Compost

I’m quite comfortable with the notion that I’m a bit sad when it comes to compost. I’m a bit of a compost geek. I would go so far as to say that my favourite job in the garden is turning the compost.

Why? I hear you cry! And honestly, I can’t really say why it is.

I think it must be something to do with the whole ‘waste not want not’ attitude I have, so everything (where possible) has a use. I also like the idea of creating something useful and necessary from waste.

It’s also a dead easy job, isn’t it really? Once you get the balance right of nutrients, it’s just a matter of mixing it up and waiting for the worms to do their bit. Perhaps that’s it, it’s just my inner lazy sod, making compost is fairly fail-safe and not all that time consuming. It’s easier to rely on stuff rotting down than the effort involved in doing everything right to get plants growing as they should.

It’s the easy job of the garden, and that’s why I like it so much. Sigh…
